Bodun’s 50th Birthday – Day 1

Nov 19, 2019

We love planning events for clients that choose our sunny shores for their celebrations and it was no different with Bodun. He got in touch with us in October 2018 and gave us a brief we just couldn’t resist!

He wanted to celebrate his 50th birthday in style with a three-day event. He planned to invite 70 of his closest friends and family who were based all over the world. Bodun, who lives in the UK, had never been to Cape Town before, he entrusted in Event Affairs to create the perfect itinerary for him and his guests.

On the first day, the guests explored the city and all it had to offer. While they were out and about, the Event Affairs team was hard at work getting the evening’s welcome dinner ready.

As most of the guests had never been to South Africa before, we thought an African-inspired dinner would be fitting. To incorporate the beautiful cosmopolitan nature of the City of Cape Town, we brought in a chic aspect to the décor. Geometric vases filled with local fauna and flora strategically matched the Shwe-Shwe base plates. Each table styled in a different colour. Even local vegetables made an appearance as part of the table décor.

The dinner was held at the stunning Ballroom at the One and Only Hotel. As guests arrived, they were warmly, and loudly, welcomed by the Abavuki Marimba Band whilst welcome drinks and canapés were served.

Inside the ballroom, the guests were treated to an abundant buffet-style dinner. A few of the dishes included honey grilled chicken citrus salad, sautéed crab with avocado salad, grilled line fish medallions, peppercorn-crusted short beef ribs, Moroccan lamb tagine, caramel popcorn éclairs and pecan pie with maple cream.

Having come from Nigeria originally, Bodun selected to fly in a DJ who specializes in Nigerian music for this three-day event. We expected the guests to be tired and struggling with jetlag, but this was certainly not the case! DJ Lakayz pumped the tunes and guests quite literally danced the night away.
